SEOUL, May 27 (Korea Bizwire) – As the distribution of smartphones loaded with games and web browsers increases, the possibility of safety accidents is soaring accordingly. To reduce such mishaps related to mobile phone usage, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries is promoting a campaign urging its workers to refrain from using their phones while working.
The company began the campaign on May 26 by distributing related leaflets to its workers, and urged them to join the movement.
As shipyards are full of massive steel structures, carelessness can easily contribute to falls or other accidents. Walking around these structures while talking on mobiles phones can increase the possibility, according to the world’s fourth largest shipbuilder.
An official from Hyundai Samho’s safety department said, “Using phones on work sites is as dangerous as driving a car while talking on the phone. Workers can stumble over structures and hardly recognize coming dangers.”
In addition, the company is running a safeguard team with some 70 members who report blind spots threatening safety while doing their daily jobs.
