YEONGAM, South Korea, Feb. 8 (Korea Bizwire) – Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries hosted a delivery ceremony Tuesday at its shipyard in Yeongnam for its latest VLCC (very large crude carrier) built for Saudi’s state-run shipping company, Bahri.
The ship, the Amjad (which means “glory” in Arabic), is 333 meters long and 60 meters wide, and is capable of carrying 300,000 tons of oil. It is the first of the ten VLCCs, each estimated at roughly $85 to 95 million, that Hyundai Samho is scheduled to deliver to the Saudi company under the terms of a 2015 contract.
The Amjad will set sail Friday, and the remaining nine are all scheduled for delivery by 2018.
