BUSAN, Aug. 8 (Korea Bizwire) — Employees working in the cold storage warehouses at the international fisheries wholesale market in Busan are fighting against the cold despite the sizzling temperatures outdoors.
The temperature of the freezer on the third floor of the building, which makes ice for the fishing industry, remains at -8 degrees Celsius.
It is midsummer outside and a midwinter inside, with the temperature extremes separated only by the wall of the warehouse.
Employees who work in the freezer driving forklifts wear winter jackets as well as gloves and earplugs.
The ice made for the fishing industry, mainly used on fishing boats, is produced in rectangular blocks that weigh 135 kilograms. The Busan facility produces an average of 100 tons of ice per day.
