SEOUL, May 31 (Korea Bizwire) — The full restoration plan for a stone pagoda at the site of Miruk temple in Iksan, which has been supported by local communities in opposition to a different plan from the Cultural Heritage Administration, has lost steam after the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) stated that a partial restoration of the pagoda was enough to inscribe the site on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The administration explained that a partial restoration of the monument as a 6-story pagoda was the most appropriate option, as a speculation that the pagoda had 9-storys during the Baekje Dynasty was groundless.
