SEOUL, Sept. 1 (Korea Bizwire) — The Incheon International Airport Corp. (IIAC), South Korea’s main airport operator, said Tuesday that it had acquired Airport Health Accreditation from the Airports Council International (ACI) for the second straight year.
The ACI Airport Health Accreditation was introduced in July 2020 as a way to systemize global airports’ disinfection measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Incheon International Airport received the certification last year, a first among airports in the Asia-Pacific region.
This year’s ACI renewal evaluation focused on the assessment of response plans, systems, and related technology for 73 items in five areas, including airport infrastructure and COVID-19 response plans.
Incheon International Airport expanded its disinfection infrastructure better to cope with an increase in passenger traffic, while introducing a virus testing center and a 5G-based temperature check kiosk that operates on a non-face-to-face basis.
The IIAC noted that the establishment of a non-face-to-face disinfection system through the deployment of sterilization and disinfection robots in the airport’s arrival area was assessed positively.
