INCHEON, May 1 (Korea Bizwire) – Next month, the port city of Incheon in South Korea will be the site of a major event expected to draw 10,000 foreign tourists for a celebration of local delicacies and entertainment.
Incheon Metropolitan City and the Incheon Tourism Organization announced on April 30 that the “2nd 1883 Incheon Maekgang Party” will take place on May 25 at the Sangsang Platform, a cultural complex located in front of Pier 8 of the Incheon Inner Port.
Visitors from around 10 countries, including China, the United States, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Russia, are anticipated to participate in the festivities.
Starting at 4 p.m., the event will feature performances by the Korea Coast Guard Band and the Yeonsu-gu Arts Troupe, as well as hands-on experiences with traditional Korean costumes and hanji (traditional paper) crafts.
From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., attendees can enjoy a lineup of entertainment, including concerts by the singer The One and Park Da-hye, K-pop girl group performances, a drone show, and a taekwondo demonstration.
The event’s name, “Maekgang Party,” is a portmanteau combining the first syllables of “maekju” (beer, referring to the famous Gaehangro beer street) and “dakgangjeong” (crispy fried chicken, a specialty of Incheon’s Shinpo Market). The year “1883″ in the title marks the opening of the Incheon Port to international trade.
Incheon Metropolitan City and the Incheon Tourism Organization plan to provide 5,000 portions of fried chicken and 8,000 cans of Gaehangro Beer free of charge to participants.
Last year’s inaugural event drew 3,000 foreign tourists, who enjoyed 1,400 portions of fried chicken and 3,000 cans of beer.
