SEOUL, Oct. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s No. 2 mobile carrier KT Corp. said Friday the first batch of iPhone 8s allocated for preorder was sold out in 30 minutes in the country.
KT said 50,000 units of the new smartphone from U.S. tech giant Apple Inc. were sold, although the speed is slower than preorders for the iPhone 7, which sold out in around 15 minutes last year.
The mobile carrier said the volume is allocated for priority shipping, adding it will continue to receive preorders. The official release is slated for Nov. 3.
Sources said the 64 gigabyte iPhone 8 and 256 GB iPhone 8 Plus were popular among South Korean consumers.
Industry watchers have been casting concern over the iPhone 8 series amid claims of swelling batteries in the overseas markets.
The anticipated release of the iPhone X also lowered consumers’ demand, they added.
