SEOUL, Oct. 14 (Korea Bizwire) – Officials from Yongsan-gu, Seoul, have announced that the Itaewon Global Village Festival will be held on October 17 and 18.
The local government says that the festival will be the biggest in size compared to previous festivals held in the past years. Most events will take place on Itaewon’s main street, but the festival will also spread to areas in Bogwang-dong and Hannam-dong.
The highlight of the festival is the ‘Global Village Parade’, which starts at 3:30 p.m. on October 17 at Hangangjin Station, before passing by Itaewon station and ending near Noksapyeong station. Around 1,000 people in 30 teams will participate, staging traditional reenactments and street performances.
On October 18, a special taekwondo performance will take place. A reenactment of the state examination of the Chosun Dynasty will also take place at 1 p.m.
Booths that introduce the culture of 26 countries will be set up, and a booth where visitors can experience Korean culture will also be featured.
The streets in Itaewon where the festival takes place will be closed during the event.
The local government anticipates that the area will advance its status as a place where culture and variety exists, instead of only being famous as a foreigner hangout.
