JEJU, Jun. 25 (Korea Bizwire) — A new facility recently established on Jeju Island will recycle used batteries from electric vehicles (EVs).
Jeju provincial government announced that an opening ceremony for the ‘Industrial Center for Electric Car Batteries’ will be held on Wednesday at Jeju Science Park.
The center will be equipped with various facilities and technology to recycle batteries from EVs.
The construction of the center was approved by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) in 2017.
The provincial government has invested 18.8 billion won (US$16.2 million) over the last three years to complete the construction.
Jeju plans to set up recycling facilities at the center to retrieve used batteries from 1,500 EVs and recycle them.
The provincial government signed an agreement with the MOTIE, Ministry of Environment, North Gyeongsang Provincial Government and Hyundai Motor Co. to set up a resource recirculation network.
These agencies and businesses will conduct performance assessments on a variety of used batteries and share the results to promote the growth of the recycling industry.
