Jeolla Province to Trial Automated Calf Feeders

Since the automated calf feeders will be able to check the weight and the nutritional status of livestock through special collars worn by the animals, the industry can expect more effective feeding and management which will lead to metabolic disease prevention and lower mortality rates. JEOLLOA, April 18 (Korea Bizwire) – A number of cattle farms in Jinan County, North Jeolla Province are adopting advanced dairy technology with the help of the local government, which will see calves fed by robotic feeders.

Jinan County’s move to use ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) in cattle farming is expected to raise feed consumption by 31 percent, which will see farm animals grow much faster while slashing spending on feed and saving time and resources.

As the deployment of automated calf feeders is likely to boost incomes for farmers by lowering the cost of raising calves, demand is expected to grow.

In addition to the automated feeding, the automatic calf feeders in Jinan County are capable of assisting with nutrition management and weaning.

“Automated calf feeders can prevent disease outbreaks and help livestock survive harsh weathers which will lead to less spending and more profit,” an official at Jinan’s agricultural technology center said in support for automation in the farming industry.
