JEJU, Mar. 15 (Korea Bizwire) – Kakao Mobility, in collaboration with the startup RideFlux and the Jeju Free International City Development Center (JDC), announced on March 15 the launch of an autonomous driving service named ‘NEMO ride’ around a high-tech complex on Jeju Island.

Designed to alleviate transportation challenges in areas known for heavy traffic congestion and steep roads, the NEMO ride service will operate from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, covering a route of 11.7 kilometers around the Jeju Advanced Science and Technology Complex and nearby roads.

Kakao Mobility anticipates that the service will notably enhance the commuting convenience for university students and professionals working in the science and technology park.

Users can hail an autonomous vehicle through the NEMO ride app by specifying their pickup and drop-off locations, as well as the number of passengers.

The service incorporates Kakao Mobility’s routing technology, allowing passengers with overlapping routes to share parts of their journey. The service will be offered free of charge.

RideFlux, known for its autonomous driving technology capable of navigating complex urban environments and adverse weather conditions, will oversee the development of the autonomous driving software and vehicle operation.

Kakao Mobility, leveraging its expertise in mobility platform management and control capabilities, will be responsible for developing and maintaining the service call platform and operational infrastructure.

Chang SungWook, a senior vice president at Kakao Mobility, expressed confidence in the initiative, citing high satisfaction rates and reuse rates from autonomous driving services operated in various cities.

He emphasized the aim to create a practical and sustainable autonomous driving service in collaboration with RideFlux, contributing to solving social issues within local communities.
