SEOUL, Sept. 29 (Korea Bizwire) — Kakao Mobility, a firm that provides cab-hailing and driver-for-hire services, said Monday it added a new artificial intelligence (AI) function that can predict whether parking lots are full or not to its Kakao T Parking service, a first among South Korean parking apps.
Previously, it was impossible for drivers to check if parking lots at their destination were congested or full.
Accordingly, it was common for drivers to take extra pains to look for other parking lots after finding that the one they tried first was already full.
From now on, however, the users of the Kakao T Parking can check the level of congestion at parking lots before arriving at their destination.
Kakao Mobility said that the new AI-based service would contribute to reducing the stand-by time in the use of parking lots, as well as eliminating the inconvenience that could arise by realizing that the parking lots are full after arrival.
The company noted that it will introduce the service first with a focus on public parking lots for which user demand is high.
“We will expand the number of parking lots for which our new AI-based service is applicable on a step by step basis,” said You Seung-il, head of the intelligence division at Kakao Mobility.
“We will also expand the function of recommending other parking lots with empty spaces in the neighborhood around a destination.”
