SEOUL, March 20 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean police are seeking to introduce an artificial intelligence (AI) system that recognizes the voices of investigators and female crime victims and automatically makes statements.
The National Police Agency is reportedly working on a system to “write statements with AI voice recognition” for related crimes against women.
The system was proposed as a concept that recognizes conversations between investigators and victims of sex crimes and thus automatically completes a report.
The purpose of the system is to allow investigators and victims to focus only on dialogue without disturbing factors such as working on documents in the middle of the investigation.
The police believe that if the system is applied to the investigation process, it can be used as a means to help create empathy between investigators and female victims.
Officials say that there can be room for investigation to focus on the side that creates a comfortable atmosphere without interrupting talks and bringing out statements while protecting the victims.
It is also said that the police could prevent secondary damages such as the lack of concentration of dialogue during the victim’s statement, which requires consideration, and the repeated mention of sensitive damage.
It is understood that the police are currently working to improve the voice recognition of the AI engines.
Since September last year, five police stations across the country, including a number in Seoul and Busan, have been working on the development of an AI based on written reports.
In addition, it is said that the police are considering using video recording to supplement the evidence capability of statements prepared through voice recognition.
“We are preparing to form a higher-level system based on the results of our work to improve voice recognition,” a police official said.
