Korail Unveils Day Trip Tickets from Seoul to Pyeongchang for Winter Olympics

SEOUL, Dec. 21 (Korea Bizwire)Amidst reports that prices of local accommodations are skyrocketing, South Koreans will now have the option of making a day trip to the Winter Games for a mere 33,000 won thanks to special Olympics ticket deals announced by South Korea’s railroad operator.

The tickets, called the “Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics Seoul ~ Gangneung Pass”, can be purchased by South Koreans of all ages and must be used between January 3 and March 31, excluding the lunar holiday period.

As a promotional deal, the tickets are considerably cheaper than typical prices. They are being offered as three- or five-day passes and are priced at 100,000 won and 168,000 won, respectively. The three-day pass can be used for six rides, and the five-day pass for ten rides in total with free seat selection as a complimentary option. Pass holders can access the KTX line from Seoul and Gangneung as well as the Yeongdong and Taebaek lines.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Pyeongchang Korail Pass is being offered in advance of the Olympics, and once purchased, will only be valid between February 1 and March 25. These tickets are sold as five-day or seven-day passes and are priced at 168,000 won and 195,000 won, respectively. 

Pass holders will be able to access any form of train travel nationwide, and will also be able to take advantage of city tours in Seoul, Busan, Jeju, Incheon, Gyeongju, and Daegu free of charge. 

The Korea Tour Card 2018 is a special edition version of the Korea Tour Card that was first released in January. It can be charged and used as a passcard for any public transportation system in the country. In addition, the card offers discounts of up to 50 percent at 2,240 stores operated by 178 companies across the nation.
