SEOUL, June 15 (Korea Bizwire) — The Korea Film Archive said Wednesday it will showcase nine classic 3D films from the early days of Hollywood at Cinemateque KOFA in western Seoul from July 28 to August 12.
These classic 3D films were initially created to address the crisis that theaters were facing during that time.
Due to the rise in popularity of TVs starting in the late 1940s, the number of moviegoers declined, prompting Hollywood to produce 3D movies that couldn’t be viewed on TV screens.
The list of films to be screened by the state film agency includes the semi-documentary film “Cease Fire” (1953), which was captured on the battlefield during the Korean War.
Additionally, the lineup features MGM’s first 3D musical film “Kiss Me Kate” (1953) and “3-D Rarities,” a compilation of rare 3D short films spanning from the 1920s to the 1950s.
The agency highlighted that these three films will be making their domestic debut.
