SEOUL, Nov. 18 (Korea Bizwire)A liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Kuwait, a project spearheaded by South Korean firms, has been completed after five and a half years.

Kuwait’s Al-Zour LNG Import Terminal, which started testing in July, has recently completed trials of the regasification facilities and the storage tanks and began commercial operation.

A business consortium consisting of Hyundai Engineering Co., Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. and the state-run Korea Gas Corp. won the construction deal from the Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company for the construction of the LNG terminal in March 2016.

The project involved building a regasification facility that can process 130,000 square meters of gas daily, and eight LNG storage tanks that can accommodate 225,000 square meters of gas in the Al-Zour region, located 90 kilometers south of Kuwait City.

It was a US$2.93 billion deal, one of the largest construction projects for building a single LNG facility.

Hyundai Engineering introduced various cutting-edge methods, including the modular method, to expedite the construction process.
