SEOUL, May 25 (Korea Bizwire) — KT Corp., a major South Korean telecommunication company, said Sunday that it has applied 5G self-driving carts to the operation of its logistics center for the first time in the industry in a bid to streamline processes at logistics centers that supply handsets to each agency and others.
The company used carts for the input and forwarding of terminals at its logistics center in Goyang, northwest of Seoul, to conduct tests to improve work efficiency and minimize contact between workers.
In fact, 5G self-driving carts reduced the distance of workers by 47 percent, which resulted in an improvement in the working environment of employees at the logistics center.
5G self-driving carts ‘Nargo’ and ‘Targo’ are equipped with AIV (Automatic Intelligent Vehicle) technology that integrates indoor maps and cart movements at the site.
Nargo consists of an autonomous vehicle and a trailing cart that drives along with it. It boasts high efficiency when it is necessary to carry large quantities of cargo at once.
Targo can automatically follow workers and is suitable for a variety of cargo.
Self-driving carts and AIV services are based on KT’s integrated mobility platform called “5G Mobility Makers.”
The 5G Mobility Makers platform provides self-driving control functions by collecting and analyzing data from various connected vehicles.
KT explained that real-time control is possible remotely, minimizing movement and contact of workers at distribution centers and increasing work efficiency.
