SEOUL, July 14 (Korea Bizwire)KT announced on July 11 that it has successfully established “a Smart Plant Factory Total Solution,” an agricultural cultivation facility using ICT technology, in one of the agrarian districts of Gangwon Province in Korea.

As part of the wider program to make farming a high value-added business and linked with the government-led “back-to-the-farm movement,” the establishment of the Smart Plant Factory included providing cutting-edge agricultural facilities and about 33 square meters of land to each new farmer in Saetdol District of Gangneung City to help them adapt to the new country life.

The high-technology farming facilities are in the form of a dome house, which enables perennial farming of seasonal crops regardless of any environmental and weather factors by converging intra-cultivation facilities (temperature control, humidification, ventilation, cultivation beds and control panel) with remote intelligent management solutions.

Furthermore, KT’s Convergence Lab will support the district’s agriculture business by providing information on optimal cultivation environment for crops by analyzing data from the smart factory.

The department head of KT’s Global & Enterprise said, “Up until now, ‘smart farming’ only meant remote monitoring of crops. But the ‘Smart Plant Factory Total Solution’ will provide not only the control of crop growing environment, but also information on optimal conditions for growing, securing high-quality harvests and solid agricultural infrastructure.”
