SEOUL, March 21 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korean panel giant LG Display Co. has emerged as the No. 1 player in the TV panel market this year, although its output dropped last month, data showed Monday.
LG Display sold 3.83 million TV panels in February, more than any other company, but the number was down 8.1 percent from the 4.16 million units it sold a year earlier, the data compiled by industry tracker WitsView showed. LG Display also was the top manufacturer of TV panels in January.
Samsung Display Co., a sister of the global tech giant Samsung Electronics Co., followed with 3.38 million units last month, also down 1.8 percent over the cited period.’
Samsung led the TV panel market in 2015, followed by LG Display and Taiwan-based Innolux Corp.
WitsView said LG Display ascended to the top place despite its reduced manufacturing of 32-inch panels, whose prices fell sharply.
China’s BOE Technology has been in third this year, followed by Innolux, the data also showed.
The global TV panel market was estimated at 17.88 million units in February, down 8.3 percent from a year earlier, according to the data.
