SEOUL, Dec. 18 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Display has introduced an in-house developed artificial intelligence (AI) production system into its OLED manufacturing processes, aiming to strengthen its competitive edge in the sector.
The AI system collects and analyzes real-time data from all stages of OLED production, which involves over 140 complex processes and generates tens of thousands of equipment data points.
By incorporating domain-specific expertise into AI algorithms, the system can automatically identify potential anomalies, analyze root causes, and suggest solutions, significantly optimizing production management.
This innovation has reduced the time required to diagnose and address production issues from an average of three weeks to just two days. Additionally, the system categorizes and analyzes data daily, sending automated reports to relevant teams each morning.
In cases of detected abnormalities, the AI halts operations on the affected equipment to ensure swift and safe responses.
LG Display estimates the AI system will save over KRW 200 billion ($150 million) annually while improving employee focus on critical tasks.
Lee Byung-seung, head of LG Display’s DX Group, stated, “We are actively integrating digital transformation (DX) into development and manufacturing to maximize productivity and bolster competitiveness. This effort will enable LG Display to achieve industry-leading technical and operational efficiency across all areas.”
