SEOUL, Oct. 31 (Korea Bizwire) – The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has officially adopted LG Display’s pioneering method for evaluating color perception differences as an international standard, the company announced on October 31.

The certification by the IEC, one of the world’s three major standardization organizations recognized by the World Trade Organization, represents a significant milestone in display technology evaluation. Global manufacturers typically adhere to IEC standards when measuring product performance.

Color perception difference refers to the phenomenon where viewers perceive the same colors displayed on screens differently, resulting in color distortion. While these variations primarily stem from individual visual characteristics, they can be amplified by different display technologies.

Minimizing these differences is crucial not only for general viewers seeking to experience content as creators intended but also for industries requiring high color accuracy, such as medical imaging and video production.

According to the newly established standard, LG Display’s large OLED panels demonstrate industry-leading performance, with color perception differences of only about 10%, indicating superior color accuracy.

“We will continue to develop products and technologies that deliver differentiated customer value through our OLED displays, which feature industry-leading high brightness, infinite contrast ratio, and precise color expression,” said Yoon SooYoung, chief technology officer at LG Display.
