SEOUL, Aug. 26 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics announced on August 25 that it will provide resource recycling education to approximately 500 students from 12 elementary, middle, and high schools in Incheon by next month.
This initiative aims to raise awareness about resource circulation among future generations by introducing the concept and significance of recycling in a way that resonates with young minds.
On August 21, first-year students at SeoIncheon High School attended a session that highlighted the causes of global environmental phenomena such as floods, droughts, wildfires, heatwaves, and severe cold spells.
The program emphasized the importance of resource circulation and provided guidance on the proper disposal of electronic waste, including an explanation of relevant regulations.
This educational effort is part of LG Electronics’ ongoing collaboration with E-Circulation Governance, a non-profit organization authorized by the Ministry of Environment. Last year, the program reached over 350 elementary school students in Seoul.
The recycling education initiative involves voluntary participation from LG employees across various departments, including development, service, and marketing. Starting this year, the Resource Circulation Society Alliance has joined the effort, conducting practical training sessions.
“We will continue our efforts to convey the value of sustainable living by educating youth, who will lead the future, about the importance of resource circulation and practical ways to implement it,” said Lee Sam-soo, LG Electronics’ Chief Strategy Officer.
LG Electronics has been expanding its commitment to environmental sustainability beyond education. The company has partnered with the Korea Environment Corporation and E-Circulation Governance to install collection boxes for small and medium-sized electronic devices at LG Best Shop stores.
In Haman, South Gyeongsang Province, LG operates the Chilseo Recycling Center (CRC), which sorts and recycles waste appliances into materials such as plastic and steel.
Internationally, LG provided electronic waste collection and disposal services in 89 regions across 54 countries as of last year. From 2006 to 2023, the company’s global cumulative collection of electronic waste reached approximately 4.51 million tons.
