LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6 (Korea Bizwire)LG Electronics Inc. on Monday announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft Corp., aiming to lead artificial intelligence (AI) innovations by combining its customer insights from various devices and spaces with the U.S. tech giant’s advanced AI technologies.

Under the partnership, the two companies will collaborate on the development and advancement of AI agents for use in various spaces ranging from homes to vehicles, hotels, offices and more, LG Electronics CEO Cho Joo-wan said during a press event, one day before the opening of CES 2025.

LG Electronics has incorporated Microsoft’s speech recognition and synthesis technologies in its AI home hub project, enabling the AI to understand customers’ various accents in different situations.

LG Electronics and Microsoft also plan to co-develop a new AI agent that not only interacts with customers but also predicts their needs and preferences.

Judson Althoff, Microsoft’s executive vice president, who was introduced by Cho, also highlighted the two companies’ collaboration in the rapidly growing AI data center sector amid the AI boom.

They plan to work together to develop optimal solutions for Microsoft’s next-generation data centers, incorporating LG Electronics’ large-scale cooling technology, “Chiller,” along with its data center solutions.

Cho said the collaboration with Microsoft is in line with its emphasis on “affectionate” AI technologies, which aim to provide differentiated customer experiences through more empathetic AIs, showing how AI is becoming an integral part of daily life.

“Affectionate intelligence that cares and empathizes with customers is now evolving into a technology that provides a comprehensive experience that seamlessly connects across multiple physical and virtual spaces,” he said.

“This is the differentiated customer value that affectionate intelligence can provide and what differentiates it from other AI technologies.”

LG Electronics emphasized its extensive global network of connected devices as one of its greatest assets.

With billions of smart products deployed across homes, mobility and commercial sectors, the company leverages a vast dataset to gain deep insights into customer lifestyles.

Additionally, its partnerships with over 170 Internet of Things (IoT) brands further enhance the scalability and connectivity of its AI ecosystem.

The company said the company’s generative AI agent, FURON, will serve as the core of its AI-driven home, analyzing customer data on a real-time basis and controlling the devices and services.
