SEOUL, May 29 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics has announced its commitment to fostering sustainable ecosystems worldwide, putting into practice its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) vision of “A Better Life for All.”

In Spain and Portugal, LG’s Spanish subsidiary is spearheading the ‘Smart Green Tree’ reforestation campaign, planting seed bombs – a mixture of soil, compost, and seeds designed for higher germination rates.

Launched in 2017, the initiative aims to plant 47 million trees annually, a number equivalent to Spain’s total population.

The tree-planting efforts have expanded to the ‘LG Green Cover’ campaign in India and ‘LG Loves Green’ in Indonesia.

Since last year, the Spanish subsidiary has also been running the ‘Smart Green Bees’ project to boost plant pollination and cultivation.

The goal is to increase the population of the Iberian honey bee, the only native pollinator for all plants in Spain, to around 47 million.

As of May, the Spanish branch had successfully increased the Iberian honey bee population by approximately 3.5 million within a year, countering the drastic decline caused by environmental factors.

In line with Saudi Arabia’s ‘Saudi Green Initiative’ to reduce carbon emissions, LG Electronics is conducting the ‘LG Yala Green’ campaign. Local employees have been planting trees in desert areas and promoting energy-efficient air conditioning products.

In April, LG Electronics established a pollinator garden at its North American headquarters in New Jersey, becoming the first Korean company to receive the Wildlife Habitat Certification from the National Wildlife Federation (NWF).

Pollinator gardens are designed to preserve biodiversity and provide a stable habitat for bees, butterflies, and other species whose populations have declined due to climate change.

Lee Sam-soo, LG Electronics’ Chief Strategy Officer, stated, “As a global corporate citizen, we will closely collaborate with our subsidiaries worldwide to create a sustainable future.”
