SEOUL, Aug. 26 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Electronics has introduced a new service that transforms televisions into digital art frames, underscoring the company’s push to enrich its webOS platform with cultural and entertainment offerings.
The service, called LG Gallery+, was unveiled on Monday and provides access to more than 4,000 works, ranging from masterpieces displayed at the National Gallery in London and Seoul’s National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art to gaming illustrations, film posters and character art developed through partnerships with Ubisoft and other media companies.
Gallery+ also incorporates artificial intelligence, allowing users to generate personalized images and set them as custom TV backgrounds. Features include curated recommendations tailored to viewer preferences and background music selections to complement the displayed artwork.
The subscription-based service, available in 23 countries including South Korea, the United States, Britain and 20 European Union nations, is supported on LG OLED and 8K TVs released since 2022, as well as UHD models from 2023 onward.
Users can subscribe directly through LG’s webOS payment system. In more than 150 countries where Gallery+ has not yet formally launched, the company is offering a trial version with about 100 free pieces of content.
The rollout is part of LG’s broader strategy to transform webOS into a content hub that goes beyond television programming. Earlier this year, the company added Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service to its platform, bolstering its gaming library.
“By responding to fast-changing trends with high-quality art, gaming and entertainment content, we aim to deliver a unique experience that sets webOS apart,” said Cho Byung-ha, executive vice president at LG’s webOS Platform Business Center.
