SEOUL, Oct. 28 (Korea Bizwire) — Lotte Fine Chemical Co. is set to import the world’s first commercially-produced clean (blue) ammonia.
The company announced on Thursday that it had signed a deal to import 25,000 tons of clean ammonia with Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC) and Saudi Arabian Mining Co. (Ma’aden) in Riyadh.
This clean ammonia acquired a certification by Germany’s consulting and certification firm TUV SUD Group for the first time in the world.
SABIC is a 70 percent-owned chemical subsidiary of Saudi Arabia’s state-run oil firm Saudi Arabian Oil Co. (Saudi Aramco), while Ma’aden is a state-owned mining company.
Thus far, there have been many cases where clean hydrogen and ammonia production project-related MOUs were signed, but this is the first case of a clean ammonia supply contract for commercial production.
The contracted clean ammonia will be imported to Ulsan where Lotte Fine Chemical’s ammonia terminal is located.
At present, Lotte Fine Chemical is carrying out research as a lead company in the national task of converting ammonia into hydrogen, and is building a demonstration facility at its Ulsan factory.
