Majority of S. Koreans Will Go to Countryside for Vacation This Year

SEOUL, May 28 (Korea Bizwire)Every industry will acclimate to a new normal due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Travel is no exception.

According to a recent survey of 300 customers by the U.S. online travel company Expedia Group Inc., 77 percent of the respondents said they were planning to remain in South Korea for their vacation this year.

However, only 2 out of 10 people, or 21.7 percent, plan to travel in July and August during the busiest season.

Meanwhile, sanitary conditions have become more important than prices when choosing accommodations for travel destinations.

When asked what factors they would consider when choosing accommodations, 52.3 percent of the respondents said “the hygiene management policy and status of lodging companies,” higher than 46 percent of respondents who chose “price.”

A total of 63 regions were chosen by the 300 respondents as the places they want to visit this year. Some twenty-four of them, or one-third, are county-level travel destinations.

The results indicate that small and medium-sized cities with relatively small populations are attracting attention as travel destinations.
