DAEJEON, July 30 (Korea Bizwire) — Police on Wednesday apprehended a man in his 20s suspected of murdering his ex-girlfriend, a woman in her 30s, in the central city of Daejeon the previous day.
The Daejeon Seobu Police Station said the man, whose identity is withheld, was put under emergency detention on murder charges at around noon. He attempted to drink poison in his car just before being detained, but his life is not in danger, the station said.
The suspect is accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death in the Goejeong-dong district of Daejeon, 158 kilometers south of Seoul, around noon Tuesday. Police hunted down the man after his cellphone was found at the crime scene.
Prior to the crime, the man was reported to police four times since last November for assaulting the victim and other reasons.
