SEOUL, April 20 (Korea Bizwire)Most of the electric vehicles that qualify for subsidies under the guidelines of the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) are equipped with Korean-made batteries, data showed Wednesday.

Out of the 22 American vehicle models eligible for the subsidies, 17, excluding the five Tesla models, are equipped with batteries made by South Korea’s three major battery makers — LG Energy Solution Ltd., Samsung SDI Co. and SK On Co.

LG Energy Solution’s batteries are featured in five GM models, including the Chevrolet Blazer and Cadillac LYRIQ, two Ford models (E-Transit and Mustang Mach-E), the Chrysler Pacifica PHEV, and the Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring.

Samsung SDI supplies batteries for the Ford Escape, Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEV, Wrangler PHEV 4xe, and Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring.

SK On’s batteries are used in two models of the Ford F-150 Lightning pickup.

To comply with stricter subsidy requirements, a large number of automakers are expected to seek cooperation with South Korea’s top three battery makers.
