SEOUL, May 14 (Korea Bizwire) – As Coming-of-Age Day, which falls on the third Monday in May each year, is drawing near, many seem to start brainstorming gift ideas for the ones soon to be entering their adulthood. There have been a clichéd list of gifts associated with Coming-of-Age Day in Korea, but such an old tradition is about to be broken this year.
Fashion store Istyle24 has conducted a survey on SNS about “the most wanted gift for Coming-of-Age Day,” to which only 4 percent said “yes” to the traditional gifts including roses, perfume and kiss. More than a half of the entire respondents (52%) said they would like to get “matching underwear with their loved ones.”
It seems that young couples in their early 20s prefer items which would help them build intimacy. Matching underwear could make a perfect gift for them not only because it is stylish but also it can bring couples closer to each other. By choosing symbolic designs such as rose-patterns, which represent the conventional concept of Coming-of-Age Day, one may add some extra touch to the gift.
Seventeen percent of the respondents have said they would like to get “jewelry or accessories” on Coming-of-Age Day. Feminine pendants with chains, rose-shaped earrings, and necklaces were some of the popular gift choices.
Another gift option chosen by 13 percent of the respondents was a “pheromone perfume.” As is well known, pheromones, in this case sex pheromones, are hormones released by an organism to attract an individual of the opposite sex. Pheromone perfumes are believed to have the sex pheromone-like qualities which help the wearer appeal to the opposite sex.
About 8 percent have chosen “lip-balms” as what they would like to get on Coming-of-Age Day. One of the most popular products under this category is KISSTIXX which is a lip-balm designed for couples. If each person puts on a different flavor and kiss, the two flavors mix to cause a chemical reaction to create a special flavor.
The last but not least on the most wanted gift list was a “girlfriend or boyfriend.” Six percent of the respondents said that they want a lover more than any other gifts.
