SEOUL, Sep. 30 (Korea Bizwire) — Park Won-soon, the Mayor of Seoul City, met with “Star Trek” producer Jeffrey Chernov and director of “Star Trek 3” Roberto Orci on September 28 at the Paramount Pictures Studio in Los Angeles to attract them to shoot a film in Seoul.
And Mayor Park’s effort came to a fruit as the director of Star Trek 3, which will be screened in 2016, decided to shoot part of the film in Seoul. Following the successful shooting of “Avengers 2″ in the city, Seoul is positioning itself as one of the best locations to be selectd by Hollywood film makers.
The meeting went ahead five months after a few scenes of “Avengers 2” were shot in Seoul. Mr. Park promoted Seoul was among the best shooting locations armed with world-class filming infrastructure, along with full support from the administration.
Since 2007, as part of Seoul publicity campaigns, the city government has financially supported studios shooting their films in Seoul for at least six days with a budget of more than 100 million won, or about US$95,000.
Not only that, those who visit the city to look for shooting locations can be provided with financial support for flight and stay.
Following the filming of Avengers 2, “Sense 8,” television drama series in the U.S., are planned to be shot in Seoul in the second half of this year, which is directed by Lana Wachowski and Andy Wachowski and starring Bae Du-na.
Thanks to Avengers 2, Seoul has enjoyed more publicity effect among the world’s moviegoers and domestic film studios could experience the advanced Hollywood system. That is why The city government continues to participate in overseas film festivals to court directors and producers to shoot their films in Seoul.
