SEOUL, Jan. 6 (Korea Bizwire) – Conflicts are deepening between medical doctors and Korean medicine practitioners over the Korean government’s decision to let Korean medicine doctors use modern medical equipment such as X-ray machines.
On December 28, the Office for Government Policy Coordination of Prime Minister’s Secretariat announced 144 regulatory reform projects including the use of medical equipment by Korean medicine doctors.
In the past, patients visiting Korean medicine clinics had to visit other health centers first to get X-rays or ultrasonography.
Moreover, the Constitutional Court of Korea ruled in December 2013 that if the measure did not threaten healthcare, Korean medicine doctors were entitled to use the modern medical equipment. Based on the court ruling, the government included the issue in the reform projects.
