SEOUL, Sept. 24 (Korea Bizwire)The Ansimi App, a safety app designed by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to help citizens return home safely at night, has reached 110,000 downloads just 11 months since its introduction.

Ansimi App is connected to some 40,000 closed-circuit television feeds installed across Seoul to monitor real-time situations and provide rescue support at all times.

The app has been used in 9,781 cases of emergency calls, 24,064 cases of return-home surveillance, and 2,263 cases of scouting.

Those who wish to make an emergency call can simply open the app and shake it, or press the emergency call button.

Return-home surveillance is a service provided by local district control centers that checks on the person until he or she reaches home safely.

Seoul managed to establish a 24/7 surveillance system in March by hiring 50 staff to work during nighttime when citizens are most exposed to criminal threats.

“The Ansimi App utilizes the safety infrastructure already in place throughout the city to respond to the demands of citizens calling for safe return home,” said Moon Mi-ran, head of gender and family policy at the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
