SEOUL, Dec. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — Multi-ovens and instant pots are gaining popularity as more South Koreans are cooking at home following the coronavirus outbreak.
An air frying oven showcased on South Korean home shopping channel CJ O Shopping last week exceeded its sales goal by a factor of 2, generating revenue over 1.1 billion won (US$1 million).
A different air frying oven introduced last October exceeded sales goals by 130 percent.
Both products have combined air fryers with ovens, allowing users to cook frozen food, fish, meat, and other cuisines.
Instant Pot, a multi-cooker capable of making soup, grilled food, and stir-fries with a simple click of a button, is also gaining popularity on major home shopping channels.
Another home shopping company GS Shop sold more than 100,000 instant pots that were first introduced in January, while Lotte Home Shopping received more than 3,140 orders for instant pots after just three television shows.
“Homemakers have become more willing to purchase new home appliances that could help with tiresome preparation for home meals,” an industry source said.
