SEOUL, Aug. 26 (Korea Bizwire) — The National Fire Agency (NFA) announced on Tuesday that it plans to predict the risk of fire outbreaks by using fire-related big data analytics.
The NFA’s decades-long accumulated data would clear the way for the agency to establish customized precautionary measures to prevent outbreaks of fire.
Under this plan, the NFA will use big data analytics to identify the risk factors for fires and vulnerable areas which will be defined by time and place, as well as to establish customized precautionary measures.
A good example of this move is increasing the frequency of firefighting drills and inspections and expanding the number of firefighting facilities in the spring when the frequency of fire outbreaks and the share of fire deaths at industrial facilities were high over the past year.
Another example is the installation of air-conditioner outdoor units for which fire can be prevented by avoiding places identified by big data to be vulnerable to fire risk, as well as strengthening pre-inspection of the components which frequently ignite fires.
The NFA intends to launch the big data-based analysis in full swing from the spring when the number of fire outbreaks and deaths is higher compared to other seasons, and expand the scope of analysis on a step by step basis.
