SEOUL, Nov. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean search giant Naver Corp. said Tuesday it will introduce HTTP/3 for its search service, a first among domestic companies, to greatly enhance search speed and stability.
HTTP/3 is a third-generation standard protocol. By reducing the initial connection time between the browser and web server, it can shorten the time for webpage data to reach end users.
As a result of testing HTTP/3 for a 3G network environment that has a relatively low speed, Naver found that the initial data arrival time decreased from 2.3 seconds to 1.8 seconds, with the initial output time of displaying webpage data on the screen reduced from 3.4 seconds to 2.4 seconds.
In particular, compared to existing HTTP/2, HTTP/3 showed more stable search results even in network shadow areas or areas where radio waves are relatively weak.
Naver said that such discrepancy is more prominent in a 3G or overseas environment with higher network latency values.
Existing HTTP/2 requires additional traffic during the process from initial connection request to transmission, but HTTP/3 ensures real-time data transmission simultaneously upon connection.
