SEOUL, May 8 (Korea Bizwire) – In the wake of the recent air pollution epidemic that is plaguing the country, South Korean search giant Naver added a new feature to its mobile web mapping service last week which tracks and records the movement of fine dust in Korea, China and Japan, allowing users to check fine dust levels in the region in real time.

By typing in ‘Korea, China, Japan ultrafine dust’ on the mobile version of the search engine, the newly introduced fine dust mapping service will assist those concerned with visual information showing the current whereabouts of fine dust particles in the Northeast Asian region, in the form of a moving image.

With regular updates scheduled for every 11 a.m. and 11 p.m., Naver’s mapping service provides fine dust forecasts for the following 66 to 78 hours and shows the movement of fine dust particles every hour, offering users more detailed information.

Compared to a previous version of the service that relied on dull numerical figures, Naver says the new version dynamically captures the movement of fine dust particles in the East Asian countries.

Shin Sang-hee, the official in charge of weather services at Naver, said, “As fine dust problems are becoming worse in South Korea every year, (our new mapping service) will come in very handy.

Shin also revealed plans to bring the service to the desktop before the end of the year, and said Naver will continue its efforts to improve the accuracy of the data.
