SEOUL, Dec. 28 (Korea Bizwire) — The Navy said Thursday it selected the 2,500-ton ROKS Gwangju frigate as this year’s “top gun” ship following an annual assessment of its warships’ combat capabilities.
The frigate of the Third Fleet based in Yeongam County, 308 kilometers south of Seoul, won the title after scoring top marks in the Navy’s gunnery competition from September to October, it said.
The annual top gun competition, which evaluates combat vessels’ ship-to-ship, ship-to-air and other capabilities, has taken place since 1988.
The Gwangju frigate was commissioned in 2016 and is one of the Navy’s six Incheon-class frigates.
