DAEGU, April 18 (Korea Bizwire) – Daegu residents will soon be able to find out where wild boars frequently appear using a new smartphone application.
According to the Daegu Environmental Protection Agency and KT’s Daegu Customer Service headquarters, an agreement was reached to establish a system to prevent damage from wild boars through IoT (Internet of Things) technology.
The parties will develop an application that protects citizens from harmful wild animals.
The application uses near field communication (NFC) to alert residents when they enter areas where wild boars frequently appear.
In addition, residents who spot wild boars can report the incidents through the new smartphone app.
In 2015, a total of 65 wild boars were spotted in 43 different encounters, and 13 boars even came near residential areas. One citizen was injured and one car was damaged.
City officials said the app has a lot of potential, noting that it is expected to be effective in preventing damage caused by wild boars.
