SEJONG, Jun. 20 (Korea Bizwire) — For the first time near the capital city of Seoul, a drone district is to be designated on a trial basis.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) announced yesterday that it is adding three more districts (Hwaseong in Gyeonggi Province, Gwangyang in South Jeolla Province and Seogwipo in Jeju) as areas where drones can be operated.
This was the first time that a district in the greater metropolitan Seoul area has been included.
Although there is high demand for drones in areas around Seoul, it has been difficult for government officials to designate appropriate areas due to security and air traffic control concerns.
The total number of drone districts will now be 10, which includes Yeongwol, Goseong, Boeun, Goheung, Jeonju, Dalseong, Yeongdo and the three new districts.
Drone operators will be allowed to fly their drones in these areas without being hindered by limitations such as height restrictions.
The MOLIT, in efforts to expand drone operable areas, will be pushing forth yet other areas for the trial drone operations this month.
