SEOUL, Jan. 11 (Korea Bizwire) — A new online shopping mall has been opened to connect ‘good consumers’ and ‘good suppliers’ and make social contributions.
The Korea National Council on Social Welfare announced on Thursday that it will begin operation of a new Value Creator Platform (VCP) that combines merchandise with social projects.
VCP is an online commerce platform developed by the Council and Vastan Co., Ltd.
Customers can select various social projects at the time of purchasing a product from VCP. Once they select the project of preference, the suppliers will donate 20 to 40 percent of each sale to the designated project.
All donations collected will be used on social projects dedicated to helping children, teenagers, persons with disabilities, multicultural families, and other vulnerable groups.
Just Giving, an online donation platform in England, served as an inspiration for the development of the new initiative.
Established in 2001, Just Giving has accumulated more than US$4.5 billion in donations.
“VCP is at the center of innovation that could generate new values at the dawn of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, where consumption means social contribution,” said Seo Sang-mok, president of the Korea National Council on Social Welfare.
“The platform will grow to become a leading social contribution platform in the world that will carry South Korea to the next level of sharing.”
