DAEJEON, Dec. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute said Wednesday that it had developed an integrated disaster warning and alert platform and an on-site customized situation dissemination platform in an effort to ensure fast and accurate transmission of disaster information.
The integrated disaster warning and alert platform is capable of sending disaster-related multimedia information to various media outlets at the same time simply through one click.
Thus far, such platforms have been operated separately by the central government and municipal governments, while being managed and produced by different companies, thereby causing difficulty in ensuring rapid dissemination of disaster information.
The South Korean research lab addressed the system compatibility problem by developing an integrated gateway that features with the ITU-T standards supporting 5G communication and ultra-high definition (UHD).
The on-site customized situation dissemination platform uses the newly-established Public Safety-LTE to ensure smooth communication between the disaster management control center, related institutions and those working on-site.
When disasters occur, on-site workers can freely send on-site information as multimedia content in the same way they use commercial messenger apps, enabling the control center to respond more effectively.
