SEOUL, Aug. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — New York Mayor Eric Adams on Monday (local time) raised the South Korean national flag alongside Korean Americans next to the Charging Bull on Wall Street.
The mayor participated in a ceremony to raise Taegeukgi, South Korea’s national flag, at Manhattan’s Bowling Green in celebration of the 78th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japan’s colonial rule.
The event hosted by the Asian American Youth Council (AAYC).
“I like to believe that New York City is the Seoul of America,” the mayor said.
“When you are able to raise a flag here at the heart of Bowling Green, our financial capital of what we reflect on and live by, you’re sending a strong message to the globe.”
Bowling Green houses the renowned Charging Bull statue, where the 13-star American flag was first hoisted in 1783 after the successful American resistance against the British in New York.
The AAYC has proudly raised South Korea’s national flag in front of the Charging Bull for three consecutive years since 2021.
