SEOUL, July 27 (Korea Bizwire) — A recent smartphone app upgrade means that passengers won’t have to struggle over people refusing to wear masks on subway trains in Seoul.
Starting on Aug. 3, Seoul will add a new function to Seoul Metro’s smartphone app that will enable passengers to report those who refuse to wear masks inside subway trains.
The reports will be delivered to security teams at subway stations, who will come to ask the person to either wear a mask or leave the train to buy one.
If the passenger refuses to follow the instructions, they will be subject to fines or other penal measures without exception.
The city reported that there were 16,631 reports of people not wearing masks on subway trains between May 13 and July 15.
