SEOUL, Sep. 13 (Korea Bizwire) – Two newborn babies were seriously injured from a burn in the incubator at an obstetrician’s office in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province. One of the babies is in critical condition from a fourth-degree burn. According to the public health office of Andong on September 12, a baby daughter of a father named Lee sustained a serious burn injury inside an incubator on the 6th.

The baby, born on the previous day through a cesarean section, had been moved to an incubator with an electric matt underneath. The next day the clinic notified the parents that the baby must be transferred to a larger hospital due to burn wound sepsis. At a burn ward in Seoul, the parents were told their daughter sustained a fourth-degree burn injury on the back and hip, which was apparently due to the malfunction of the electric matt.

The clinic acknowledged the mistake and said there was another baby with the similar injury in a signed affidavit. The Andong public health office is currently investigating the incident for further details.
