SEOUL, March 27 (Korea) – On-site Counseling Service”, Seoul Global Center’s new outreach service for foreign residents that visits areas with a large foreign population, is proving popular among those who are too busy to visit the center in person during the week.

When the first session of On-site Counseling Service this year took place earlier this month, hundreds of Filipino nationals turned up with nearly 900 counseling sessions provided, according to Seoul Global Center.

Eighteen experts including labor lawyers, translators, immigration officers and volunteers helped migrant workers at the booths during the event.

Lee Gun-min, an assistant manager at the local division of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, said, “As it was the first time the on-site counseling service was provided this year, a lot of people came to the event and it proved very popular.

“Many questions from migrant workers evolve around whether their employer is making sure to pay for their Departure Guarantee Insurance or pension, or how they will receive insurance claims or pension benefits,” Lee added.

Since its launch back in 2009, Seoul Global Center’s On-sight Counseling Service has been visiting areas heavily populated by foreign nationals, with 15 more events planned between March and November this year.

The next event offering on-site counseling service is scheduled for April 22 in Itaewon.
