SEOUL, Jun. 10 (Korea Bizwire) — In the age of 10 million pets, services for pet owners are evolving rapidly.
According to pet industry watchers on Sunday, new services such as one-hour delivery of pet products, pet sitters, moving robot closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and other services that were previously unavailable are emerging as a new flood of startups are launching innovative new services in the market.
‘Pet Friends’ offers one-hour delivery for pet products from noon to midnight in Seoul.
Shipping is free of charge regardless of the purchase, and customers can designate the delivery time of their choice, making the business grow through word of mouth among pet owners busy with work.
‘Dog Mate’ is a startup company which takes care of dogs when pet owners have to leave home for long periods of time.
Instead of leaving the pet at a pet hotel, a pet sitter visits the pet owner’s house to take care of the pet, or a pet sitter takes care of the pet at his or her home.
These types of services area more useful if pet owners have a dog that needs to be walked every day.
Moving CCTV cameras for companion animals alone at home are also gaining popularity among pet owners.
The appbot-Riley, developed by Varram System Co., broke the limitation of fixed CCTV cameras and moves along with dogs and cats, allowing pet owners to watch live videos of their pets.
GS Home Shopping Inc., a leading home shopping channel operator, reported that it launched a specialized category for pets on its online site in April last year, and has been showcasing products from the startups.
Up until recently, sales of the specialized category for pets have been increasing by an average of 10 percent every month.
