SEOUL, July 7 (Korea Bizwire) – After four piranhas were found in a Korean reservoir for the first time in Korea, there is widespread worry about ecosystem disturbance and the possibility of attacks on humans by the South American freshwater fish. The piranhas were thought to be abandoned by someone who brought the fish to Korea for their personal aquarium.
Currently, piranhas are not restricted for import, and are openly traded on the Internet without restrictions. Experts said that the carnivorous fish would not be able to survive the harsh winter, but if they could, it would be disastrous for the Korean freshwater ecosystem.
