SEOUL, July 19 (Korea Bizwire) – Police said Wednesday they began an investigation into a North Korean defector who now has returned home as she appeared in a Pyongyang-based propaganda piece lambasting the South.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said they are trying to find out how the woman, alias Lim Ji-hyun in the South, went back to the North and whether it was a voluntary re-entry or an abduction.

Lim appeared in footage posted online by Uriminzokkiri on Sunday, introducing herself as Jon Hye-song, who defected to the South in January 2014 and came back to the homeland in June this year. She said she lives with her family in South Pyeongan Province.

The police said they are questioning people who knew her while she was in the South and looking into her financial and phone records.

Lim once appeared on a cable TV show in South Korea. She mentioned this in the propaganda program, saying that she was forced to speak evil of her homeland by the South Korean broadcasting company.

She then blasted the South for being enslaved by money and that she had a fantasy of a better life here but was left with “physical and mental pains.”
