SEOUL, June 10 (Korea Bizwire) — POSCO International Corp. has joined hands with a domestic tech startup to make inroads into foreign medical robot markets.
The South Korean general trading company Said Wednesday that it had signed a business agreement with medical robot startup Biot Korea Inc. as part of efforts to seek business opportunities in foreign markets for non-contact specimen collection robots.
The specimen collection robot developed by Biot Korea uses remote control technology to enable the collection of virus specimens on a non-contact basis. Thus far, such collection has been carried out manually by medical staff.
Since a single doctor can control up to nine non-contact specimen collection robots, it would contribute to minimizing the fatigue of medical staff and the risk of secondary infection.
“We expect to see gradual growth in this market, particularly in the areas that require the collection of specimens on a non-contact basis, including medical sites, airports and remote areas,” the company said.
POSCO International will be responsible for carrying out foreign market analysis and establishing a sales network by using its extensive overseas contacts, while Biot Korea will support technical sales and business operation.
